Welcome to ST. MAX

Our namesake, St. Maximilian Kolbe, is one of the more recent Saints of the Catholic Church. When he was a boy, the Virgin Mary appeared to him. He writes of the vision: "That night I asked the Mother of God what was to become of me. Then she came to me holding two crowns, one white, the other red. She asked me if I was willing to accept either of these crowns. The white one meant that I should persevere in purity, and the red that I should become a martyr. I said that I would accept them both."

He was a founder of monasteries in both Japan and India. In 1941, his monastery in Poland was shut down for distributing anti-Nazi publications, and soon after Kolbe was sent to Auschwitz. After two months, men were chosen from among the prisoners to be starved to death. Kolbe was not chosen, but instead volunteered to take the place of a man who had a family saying: “I am a Catholic priest. I wish to die for that man.  I am old;  he has a wife and children."

Our Story

ST. MAX  opened to serve Christians in Owensboro. We want to proclaim the Catholic Tradition, through the beauty of art, the power of literature, and lives of the Saints from our storefront in Owensboro.

Inside our store, you'll find books, iconography and other types of religious art, all of which glorifies our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Whether you are looking for a gift for a baptism, looking for a book on a specific topic, looking for artwork to turn your home into a sacred space, or just curious about the Catholic Church, we will have something for you.
